Two Accounting Companies, by Edward
I was thinking about my future occupation, and one day I will become an important accountant. Any accountant would like to work for a famous company. There are two big international and important accounting companies, Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Llynveld Peat Marvick Goerdeler (KPMG). Both companies are very important and recognized as expert in accounting. After considering the history, the location, and the services of Pricewaterhouse and KPMG, I decided I would like to work for Pricewaterhouse.
The first consideration when comparing Pricewaterhouse and KPMG was their history. Both companies have many years working in business. Pricewaterhouse was created by the merger of two firms, Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Lybrand. Pricewaterhouse has 156 years of history. Samuel Lowell Price was the first to set up the business in London in 1849. In 1998, the worldwide merger of Pricewaterhouse and Coopers and Lybrand created Pricewaterhouse Coopers. In contrast, KPMG has been in business for 88 years. Klynveld started the company in Amsterdam in 1917, and in 1987 Peat Marwick International merged with Klynveld Main Goerdeler. I would like to work for Pricewaterhouse because it has more experience in business than KPMG. Both companies have been in business for a very long time, but when a company has 156 years of history and still has success like Pricewaterhouse, that is very impressive.
The second point I considered when comparing Pricewaterhouse and KPMG was location. Both companies have offices around the world, and both have agencies in Honduras. Pricewaterhouse operates in 148 countries around the world. KPMG has offices in 144 countries around the world. There is not much difference between the number of offices, but Pricewaterhouse in Honduras is bigger than KPMG. Pricewaterhouse has many customers in Honduras because of its success and excellent customer service. If I get a degree in accounting, I would prefer to work at Pricewaterhouse because it has more international offices than KPMG and it is very strong in accounting in Honduras. I could have more opportunities to work in my country and to travel to some others offices that they have.
Finally, considering the services that Pricewaterhouse and KPMG offer, I would prefer to work for the company that offers the greatest diversity of service to its customers. The services that Pricewaterhouse provides are accounting, auditing, liquidation, transactions, managements consulting and taxes. KPMG specializes in only three fields: auditing, taxes, and advisory services. Both companies have similar services, but Pricewaterhouse offers more that the customer wants because of its service diversity. If I worked at Pricewaterhouse, I could improve my knowledge in accounting and business management.
In conclusion, after taking everything into consideration, I feel great about one day working at Pricewaterhouse. Even though they both have an interesting and famous history, I would consider working at Pricewaterhouse because it has been in the business of accounting longer and has more experience. I would have more chances of getting a job in Honduras with Pricewaterhouse, because it is big and it has more jobs there, and there are probably more opportunities for business travel. Deciding where to work can be difficult and affect the rest of my professional life, but I would prefer to work for Pricewaterhouse because I would learn many different skills. I will probably become a successful accountant.
