The Causes of Teen Pregnancy, by Henrique

The effects of teen pregnancy today have become a problem for our world. There is such a lack of information and support from parents and friends. Because of this, teens have become more susceptible to the problem. Research has shown that in the year 2,000, 821,810 youth between the ages of 17 and 19 became pregnant in the United States with 113,000 in California alone. The causes of teen pregnancy are mental immaturity, lack of education and family support.

The first cause of teenage pregnancy is because of the differences between teenage boys and girls. Teenage girls’ bodies mature faster than the boys. Girls between 12 and 15 years old have a big transformation. Because of these physical changes the girls think that they are grown up but they are immature. This can be dangerous because they are able to have sexual relationships with boys without the mental maturity to handle pregnancy.

The second cause of teenage pregnancy is lack of education. Teenagers do not have any education or experiences to prepare them for pregnancy. Most teens do not any kind of experience and support at home. Their parents fail to educate and prepare the teens for life experiences. Parents are embarrassed to talk plainly about the consequences of their children’s decisions because they are unaware of the pregnancy risk.

The third cause of teenage pregnancy is the lack of supportive parents. When girls do not have the support of parents, they look outside the home for love and acceptance. Girls look for affection with friends and boyfriends. This can be dangerous because boys will prey on vulnerable young girls. Girls also look to magazines, videos, and television to learn about the world, but they portray an imaginary world.

Teenage pregnancy is a world problem. This can be resolved if society prepares teenagers to be more mature and responsible for their lives. Parents are the most influential in their teenager’s lives as they teach them about their body’s development. Girls also need acceptance and love, especially from their families. Teenagers need to have a good example from their parents then they can be more prepared for the future. That will prepare them for a real family.
