The Difficulty of Learning English in the United States, by Henrique

Learning English in another country can be difficult because people often do not have resources. In Brazil, many people want to learn English, but they face various obstacles. The English schools in Brazil do not have many student exchange programs with schools in the United States. Participating in an exchange program can be expensive if students do not have information and support to acquire a visa. To study in the U.S., a foreign student must first pay tuition before he or she can get a visa. This can also be a problem. The student will lose money if the American embassy does not give the visa. The government does not give the money back if the visa application is refused, and if the student wants to try again, he or she needs to pay the fees again with the risk of being refused again. American schools do not offer support with the visa application process and often do not refund their fees. Some Brazilian schools have an exchange program with schools in the U.S., but these programs have a high cost and only rich people can afford to go to the programs. Three possible solutions for Brazilians to more easily study in the U.S. are to have more student exchange programs, for businesses to help fund students, and for the governments to support students who desire to study English.

The first solution is for American and foreign schools to have good student exchange programs and good inter-school relationships. The United States can form a treaty with Brazil to give foreign students more guarantees to be given a visa. The schools also need to demand that the government lower students’ visa fees. This can help foreign students financially when they are applying for a visa. Students should have a visa guarantee from the government when the students are accepted at a school.

Another solution to help Brazilians study English abroad can be industries and companies giving scholarships and helping poor schools to send students to study in the U.S. This kind of program would help poor students and create better programs for these companies and industries. They can establish good relationships with American companies and help students who want to learn English. Private and public schools can work with small companies to help the community in educational and cultural areas, and find other companies or small companies to help them create a good organization to support poor students to have the means to study so they will have a better life in the future.

The best solution to give Brazilian students opportunities to study in the U.S. is for both governments to give more opportunities to Brazilian students to study in the U.S. Brazilian schools need better quality of education and more incentives for students to study in another country. Brazilian government needs to fund English language schools or programs. The Brazilian and American governments need to work together to help people who want to learn and prepare for future jobs because English is the most important language in the business world. However, American companies also need employees who can speak another language, such as Portuguese. Both countries will have better quality employees and be able to help students who do not have the financial means to learn another language. Working together creates good relations between both countries and better cultural understanding.

It is important for companies, industries, and governments to see that it is difficult to get a visa and financial support, and that they can help schools that do not have enough money to create relationships with American schools. With collaboration both countries can have better commercial, cultural, and humanitarian relationships with good students and employees who know another language. Working together gives better results and better quality employees to businesses.
